Good food, reasonably priced for the portions and quality. Great for a quick dinner.

This is my favorite place to eat at Gulf Shores. They have the best fried shrimp I have ever tasted. The price and atmosphere is great.

One of our favorite places to eat at the beach. This is a no-frills restaurant but the food is great. They have an all-you-can-eat special every night for $10. I think Wednesday and Sundays are popcorn shrimp and is our favorite.

My wife and I ate lunch there. Only seats about 50 people. 10 customers were there when we arrived, mostly senior citizen couples. We were greeted upon entering and were seated immediately. Our lunch consisted of: The fried shrimp platter (12) which came with a small cup of "shrimp coleslaw", two hushpuppies and we ordered the new potatoes (ask for the liquid butter); we had a bowl of seafood gumbo and two unsweetened teas. We had an efficient and courteous young exchange student from Romania serve us. Our food was good, hot and fresh when it arrived at the table. Hush-puppies were frozen (not made on the premises) but tasted good. Not much seafood in the seafood gumbo but really tasty broth and fresh crackers. Our ticket total was $20.86 not including gratuity. We split this meal and were both hunger deficient when we were finished. This is a "mom-and-pop" restaurant with very casual atmosphere, friendly staff, good food and reasonable prices. We'll be a repeat customer. It's worth a visit.

This is the definition of casual seafood joint. The waitress is friendly, drinks are served in a plastic Solo cup, and EVERYTHING is available fried. I ordered the all-you-can-eat fried whitefish with shrimp slaw, hush puppies, and fried okra. My wife ordered the grilled shrimp platter with shrimp slaw, potato salad, and hushpuppies. Stephanie was our server. We had read that the service was slow. Stephanie was awesome! She got our drinks fast, and kept them full during the reasonable wait for the food to arrive. The food was great! The fried fish had a very light but tasty breading. They have tartar sauce, cocktail sauce and malt vinegar to put on it. But, it doesn't NEED anything. The shrimp slaw actually has baby shrimp in it! The hushpuppies were great dipped in melted butter. Be sure to ask for the melted butter! The okra was average, but good. The grilled shrimp had a great fire-grilled flavor, with the perfect amount of spice. The potato salad was different. It had a hint of bacon flavor, but was otherwise unremarkable. Stephanie kept our drinks full and the fried fish coming. The price was good, considering how much we ate. We both really enjoyed our experience here. When you come here, be sure to ask for Stephanie!

Awsome place to eat. Everything fresh and not heavly breaded like other places. Order their 3 pc basket and loved it. Cole slaw was new, never had it with shrimp in it. Need something like this in San Antonio,tx. Ate there atleast 4 times before leaving back to texas.

The family and I were looking for a quick place to eat lunch before heading back to the rental house for nap time. We spotted this Shrimp Basket location and happily pulled in. We had heard of this place and looked for one on Google and Yelp, but this location didn't show up on either. It was the real deal though, so we piled into a table outside and ordered away. My wife ordered the pick-two fried basket with shrimp and crab claws. I got the pick-three with shrimp, pop-corn crawfish, and fish. I asked the waitress what kind of fish it was and was please when I didn't just get a simple "white fish" answer. She told me exactly what it was and that it came from the Gulf (I don't remember what kind it was because I was distracted by a 19 month old with a squeeze ketchup bottle, but she knew which was good enough for me). The food was all pretty amazing. The hush puppies were awesome, with big chunks of onion and fresh herbs in them. The seafood was all cooked perfectly. The shrimp and crab claws were off the charts good. I would say that they are must haves if you stop in. Also, the tarter sauce was great. The coleslaw, which I don't usually eat, had shrimp in it, so I made a rare exception and ate all of it. My three year filled up on my wife's crab claws to the point that he didn't touch his grilled cheese sandwich. To top it all off, the service was great and our food came out very quickly, which is exactly what we wanted.

when we go to gulf shores its because we are going to see my brother & his family. they have three kids under the age of seven, so fine/fancy dining is difficult. but sometimes that is okay. shrimp basket had good fried seafood, po boys, & steamed shrimp. would definitely go back with the kids!

went there yesterday.. i ordered the blackened whitefish with rice and hush puppies..the food came out fast and the service was decent..the rice was not good..the rice was mushy and tasted only like butter..not seasoned at all..the fish was not really blackened..the fish was really greasy..and the skin on the fish was kinda tough..the fish was only okay but we both got bad indegestion from the food here..the hush puppies were very tiny but good..i wouldnt recommend going here..we make better grilled/blackened fish and rice at home.. didnt try any of their fried food..the inside was pretty crammed and it was full of people..

We LOVE the Shrimp Basket! This is one of our go-to places. The seafood is fresh & decently priced. Went again on our first night in town & we had a great waitress, wish I had gotten her name...she was from Miami & very personable. My husband had two orders of the oysters on the half shell, I had a shrimp po'boy. Our teen boys had the all you can eat shrimp. (They have different specials on certain nights.) I tried one of their piña coladas, and it was the best! Highly recommend!

Fried shrimp basket comes with two hush puppies, a corn fritter, and a side. I got the red beans and rice, which were good. (I was disappointed after reading other reviews over the hush puppies--I didn't think they were that great.) Also represented at my table was a fried clam poboy, a grilled catfish poboy, and shrimp étouffée. It's a cute, beachy casual place with inside and outside dining. Service was good. Shrimp was a bit bland, but not a bad place to stop for lunch.

  • Jay S.

The food is good, the prices are alright, but they have unlimited popcorn shrimp on Sundays and Wednesdays - and that is what helps me give it 4/5, and not 3/5. I think there are better places to go in Gulf Shores, but there are worse places also! Definitely worth visiting for one meal if staying for a week.

Good stuff. Not fancy, dont expect that. The coconut shrimp was delicious, and the service was real friendly. They also have a great selection of island type drinks.

Great food! Nice comfortable patio with fans a mist. Island feel. Nice colada. Fast and friendly service. Right price for the food. Not too expensive but not dive cheap.

The food here is good. We enjoy coming here for the relaxed atmosphere and dining experience. I had the grilled whitefish platter and it was really flavorful. I have had the fried shrimp before and thought it was also good.

Mmmm...the Shrimp Basket. What a yummy way for my fiance and I to spend a random June Wednesday. We started with the coconut shrimp which was perfectly sweet. I chose the crab cake platter as my entree with delicious shrimp slaw and yummy fried okra. I loved the crab cakes, they were perfectly cooked and full of crab - so good! I will definitely be returning to the Shrimp Basket next year!

For tasty food & friendly service, this was a great place to dine. I tried cheese grits for the first time (I'm from Chicago) and was pleasantly surprised how yummy they were! Creamy & cheesy southern soul food. The grilled white fish was superb. Thier mixed drinks were fruity & had a kick. My husband had a shrimp po boy that had good flavor as well. Overall, you'll enjoy this place if your looking for good southern seafood with a beachy atmosphere

Cool place. Comfortable and casual atmosphere. Good food. Decent price. All in all a nice stop for the family.

We stopped in after a long day at Hang Out Fest, so we were tired, sun drained, and very hungry. And the jawn was packed. The servers all seemed a little worn down, probably by the endless streams of wasted festival attendees, and I don't begrudge them that. It's a laid back, beach-friendly place, so no need to go home to clean up unless you're into that sort of thing. The food was great - fresh seafood at reasonable prices. The frosty drinks are on the pricey side and I questioned the alcohol content. Stick to beer and you are good to go!

  • Lori T.

Always a hit with my family and I! We love both the all you can eat fish and shrimp days. Great food and they are all reasonably priced. Keeps us coming back!!!

If you like it fried this is your place. Food was average and over priced...welcome to the beach!

  • Maemill N.

Good food, great drinks, and I loved the outdoor seating! It was just a short walk from the nearby souvenir shops we visited and the weather was perfect. The homemade tartar and cocktail sauces were very good; they really made a difference. And my daiquiri was the icing on the cake. A little pricey though; but my family enjoyed it, so we'll definitely be back.

    (4)
  • Joe R.

Super (and I mean super) casual place to get some tasty fish at a cheap price (lots of deals throughout the week). The smell in the restaurant is a little weird, so if that bothers you I suggest sitting outside. However, the place fills up as it is very popular in the area.

Shrimp Basket was without a doubt the best restaurant on our short tour of the Gulf Shores dining scene - of course it was quite restricted being that we were at an all-weekend consuming festival and essentially had no means of transportation while at the beach - nonetheless we were quite pleased by the food, service and general atmosphere. On our way down to the Alabama gulf, I spotted several Shrimp Basket locations, which piqued my interest - I'm always intrigued by chains we don't have in Atlanta/Georgia - so I was especially thrilled to see one located so closely to Orange Beach. Being that it was one of the restaurants within walking distance, it was very busy; we were sure we'd be in for a long wait. However, the staff was on it! We were seated with our drink orders taken within 15 minutes. We were seated on the patio, which I was hesitant about due to the heat - but their patio is geniusly set up with a mini-hoses contraption on the ceilings finely misting cool water over the tables. Heavenly. Together we had shared halves of a grilled fish sandwich and their AYCE popcorn shrimp special ($11.50 - available on Sundays and Wednesdays) which is accompanied with three sides shrimp slaw, potato salad, and hush puppies (the sides are one serving only). I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the sandwich - the fish tasted fresh and was very well cooked and seasoned. The popcorn shrimp was decent (ask for a side of cocktail sauce), I preferred the side options however, particularly the shrimp slaw (feauturing baby shrimp) and the potato salad - which amazingly contained bits of bacon. Overall, Shrimp Basket is a great fast-casual restaurant for seafood at a great price!

They have little wait time, great food, and great waiter service. And even if you don't like seafood, it's ok, because they have fried chicken too. Great place. Establishment could have been a bit cleaner.

  • Barb H.

Just had a late lunch here. They give you a lot of food! Not much of a place for atmosphere, but we went there for the food, not atmosphere! I had the shrimp basket, husband had the fish basket. Both were great. I highly recommend this place..But go early! It gets very busy as the day goes on.

  • Andi M.

Really good seafood after a long day at the beach. My husband ordered the seafood platter: fried oysters, fried shrimp, fried catfish, and stuffed crab. The oysters were totally out of this world. I had the shrimp étouffée platter. Everything was delicious, including the shrimp slaw. The only downside: REALLY weak, overpriced drinks.

  • Jason M.

Decided on Shrimp basket after leaving Bills by the beach because I read so many negative reviews while waiting to be seated! I've had good experiences with Shrimp Basket in the past so I felt comfortable about dining here. I was wrong, this location is a complete DIVE, restrooms are single toilets located outside like a gas station, no room to eat, elbows almost touching neighbor from other table while eating. Only give 3 stars for the food, service and atmosphere are terrible...don't recommend!

Food was good, it was just hard to get comfortable because it is so crowded in there. The staff seemed friendly.

Pretty good food. Nothing special, but nothing great either. Family of 5 and the bill was $92.00. Pretty expensive for fried seafood.

    (3)
  • Nick H.

Delicious fried everything! My fiancé and I went here while on vacation for lunch. I got the friend sampler which included stuffed crab, fish, oysters, and shrimp. Their cole slaw and hush puppies were really good too. I would give them five stars, but we did wait a bit before our server came to greet us (though she was attentive after that).

    (4)
  • Pam W.

Ordered Shrimp and grits and was somewhat disappointed. The main seasoning was sage(I think). Tasted like a package of stove top stuffing. Service was good. Slaw is very good. Maybe I'm Spoiled, just returned from New Orleans and the food tops the scale there.

  • Tricia D.

Loved this place! Service was a little slow but it was very busy. Casual and laid back. Deck seating is cramped but easily overlooked. Best fried shrimp I ever had! The red beans and rice was perfect. Hush puppies were crispy but still moist. Fried fish wasn't greasy and was flaky. Others have praised their shrimp slaw but I hate slaw so I didn't try it. Other than the slow service the other thing that was a letdown was the small selection of diet soda. Only Diet Coke? Blech! Disappointed there wasn't Coke or Sprite Zero. I would definitely return.

The grilled catfish are really tasty. I have tried all over and no one else comes close. We eat here a lot and really like to service and food. You should try it because you will like it very muck.

  • Samantha B.

Great food! Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had grilled shrimp, shrimp slaw and potato salad, all was delicious. Better pricing than most other places around. Went at 6pm on a Tuesday with family of 4 and didn't have to wait. Though the group behind us did.

  • Anthony D.

Great place to eat. We've been eating mid day in an attempt to beat the crowds. We only had a short wait here, although other times we have driven by the lines have been massive. I had the grilled shrimp basket with red potatoes, it was flavorful and cooked well. The potatoes were really good, as was the slaw. My wife had the all-you-can eat whitefish, but hardly had room for the refill. I believe it was still cheaper to do this if you wanted fried fish, though. Outside dining was cramped, but to be expected in this area. Prices were fair, actually leaning to cheaper compared to other places.

    (4)
  • Courtney C.

It was just ok. I ordered the crab cake platter. They asked if I wanted it fried or grilled. I'd never even heard of "grilled crab cakes". So I ordered fried. Be warned. Their fried crab cakes are actually battered and deep fried like a hush puppy. They weren't very good. Maybe their "grilled" is closer to the pan seared I'm accustomed to. My husband ordered Mahi Mahi tacos. The tacos have a mayo/horseradish sauce on them. If we had known he wouldn't have ordered those. He despises horseradish! I think lots of the issues we had could be fixed with a more descriptive menu.

    (3)
  • T H.

The outside seating was very relaxing. We had the special of the day which was popcorn shrimp. Best we ever had. Steamed shrimp was excellent. The sides were tasty. We also did a chicken tender basket which was super moist. The service was quick and efficient. Great with children.

Out of the three seafood places I dined at in Gulf Shores, this was my least favorite. Service wasn't great, felt as though we were an after thought half of the time. We dined here for lunch on the Thursday before Hangout Festival and the place was full, as to be expected. Certainly a younger crowd, but I'll credit that to the fest. Things the Shrimp Basket is good for: accessibility and proximity to Orange Beach. Things they could do better: not treat customers like cattle, especially when they are throwing down a decent amount of money just for lunch. I had the Shrimp Tacos - they were not appetizing. The shrimp tasted like a quick boil, rubbery mess topped with a runny cole slaw. If you have an option to pick something else within walking distance, go to the Steamer one block over. It's better all around!!!

    (2)
  • Holly R.

Yum!! Great selection of blackened, grilled, or fried options, not too pricey, blackened mahi tacos & corn fritters were favorites!

    (5)
  • Liz L.

We tried the shrimp basket twice. The fisrr time my shrimp tacos were way over seasoned but my husband really like his Mahi Mahi tacos. Today we ordered carry out and I got the shrimp skewers and there was a dead bug in my rice. We definitely won't be going back

  • Benson G.

A cool little standard in Gulf Shores. You don't need to get dressed up to go but the food is good and the drinks are great. My group of friends always arrives to the beach about 12:00 and we eat and drink here until the beach house is ready for check in. For drinks, try the Basket Case. Food-wise I can recommend the mahi mahi fish tacos.

    (4)
  • Jeremy T.

Some of the best seafood, I have ever had in Gulf Shores. I am not from Gulf shores so I do not have all the time in the world to go around to every seafood joint around and make this the best or not. I always get the popcorn shrimp, hands down the best ever, even in 2010 when the BP oil spill happened.

  • Dion A.

Awesome, awesome and even more awesome. The only flaw that i had with this place was its extremely small, but other than that, awesome! I had the grilled fish and shrimp with 6 raw oyster and fried pickles while my wife had fried fish and fries. The solution to the small dining area was getting it all to go and dining on the beach a block away. Awesome!

  • Pamela F.

Went because it was suggested by a friend. Gave it an honest try. Oysters were big and fresh. Got the mahi mahi tacos and they had so muh"liquid" in them it poured out into the basket when I picked it up. Ugh. Poboy my husband got was decent but we are foodies and have had far better. Couldn't get our waiter to return for drink refills. (They weren't busy at all ). They sat us in a booth in front of the area where the food is picked up and drinks made. Bad idea. Two servers would walk up to get their order or to just stand around. More than once they took a French Fry out of a basket of food waiting to be delivered!!!! Once throwing a fry into the air and letting it fall to the ground stepping over it. One waitress loudly exclaimed to a fellow server "well I don't get butthurt over things like you do". Unprofessional at best. Oh, did I mention that after they would eat food from the window they never washed their hands then would grab dishes to be delivered and cups to make drinks. Too many young people working which what looked like zero capable leadership. As we left, the girls standing outside at the hostess stand who never moved while we were there unless they were playing around with the male, French fry eating waiter, never stopped their gossip session long enough to acknowledge us with even a "thank you, come again". Sorry I waisted our hard earned vacation dollars as this place for sure.

Food is very good but it can get a little loud. Depending on the season its very crowded and if you go late you will wait. Go early and enjoy. Their is another shrimp basket in foley that more of a locals place thats about 15 minutes north of gulf shores off hwy 59.

    (5)
  • Monica B.

The food was tasty and different. I had the shrimp taco which was delicious! Our service was very pleasant. Even though the food didn't come out quickly, we had no problem waiting because of how polite our server was.

  • Corky R.

I had the blackened fish po boy. Good sandwich. We also had the coconut shrimp which was good. We will come came back for sure.

We ordered to go food from Shrimp Basket as we were leaving the gulf. With a large order placed for 5 people I thought it might take a while especially because they were super busy, but it only took 15 minutes! Speedy service is great, but the food? Excellent! Kids and adults were pleased alike. I got the (fried) shrimp tacos which come with 2 tacos, cole slaw, 2 hushpuppies, corn nugget, & choice side..All for only $10. Everything was full of flavor and the best I've had, including the french fries! Only problem is I wish I had room in my stomach for more!

  • Jaclyn S.

Waitress was really good. Drinks refilled timely. Food tasted really good also. The grilled shrimp was spicy but delicious. Hush puppies had great flavor. Wasn't a fan of the slaw. Rice was awesome. Gumbo tasted just right. Would recommend and return.

  • Bruce D.

Reasonable seafood but tacky dining experience. I had the catch of the day red snapper, blacken. It was a nice sized piece and was cooked to what I considered the proper stage of doneness. With this I had the potato salad, shrimp slaw and what I identified as a corn fritter and two hush puppies. There must be 1,000+ recipes for both potato salad and cole slaw. The potato salad was fine. The shrimp slaw is cole slaw with tiny shrimp included, this was good. The corn fritter and the hush puppies were both deep fried and I considered them overdone. Service was good.

  • Susan K.

Great place, casual dining. Service was very attentive. I had the sauté scallops with the new potatoes and shrimp coleslaw. The scallops were awesome the new potatoes were perfect. My husband had the all you can eat popcorn shrimp with the new potatoes and the shrimp coleslaw. Also very good. A definite stop the next time we're in town. Get the new potatoes with what ever you order perfectly cooked

  • Victoria C.

Went there on a rainy day for lunch with my family. They were very busy for the obvious reason of no one being at the beach. They had us seated in less than 10 minutes. The server was very responsive and got our order in timely. All of our food came out well and all 10 of us enjoyed it. Definitely would recommend since we all had different items and everyone was satisfied.

Well, I'm sitting here at the bar right now, and I'm completely grossed out. I'm watching everyone, including the manager, eat at the bar right in front of me. Eating meatballs with THEIR FINGERS. No one has washed their hands. They then pick up the plates and serve the food. I asked the manager "Do you guys not have a server station? I've worked in restaurants for 20 years, and I've never picked at food in front of a guest. It's very unappetizing, and looks gross." He literally laughed at me, said "yeah, okay", and walked away. He hid in the back until I was leaving. As I paid to leave he said "sorry about that ma'am." I replied "it's a little too late now. It's disgusting and you were extremely rude how you laughed and walked away as I was speaking." I'd give them negative stars if I could.

Food is amazing! Love their coleslaw! Would have given it 5 stars if service was friendlier!

  • Ben O.

blah. The service was okay. Toward the end, our waitress forgot about us but didn't really affect our experience. I had the catfish basket. I wish I could say more than it was fried fish with some coleslaw and hushpuppies. It's hard to mess fried food up. It was just...the very minimum you would expect in fried fish. My wife had shrimp tacos and said the shrimp was very salty. The beer was not terribly cold and service in little plastic cups. Pass.

Great fried shrimp and new potatoes, really good hush puppies too. The service is really great.

It's a real all you can eat Shrimp Boil Special. My family forced me to stop eating when the waitress didn't. Also, during the meal the waitress would offer to bring another round of shrimp even before I finished what was in front of me. The shrimp were average sized and were cooked well. No added seasoning, but the cocktail sauce had a nice kick to it. The Shrimp Basket continues to be one of my favorite places to eat at while in Gulf Shores. It's laid back atmosphere and fresh seafood is what makes it so great.

We go to Gulf Shores every year for a week vacation. I love high end restaurants, especially French food and seafood. That's not Shrimp Basket! This little local chain of divey fast-foodish shops is as good as it gets in the area. They specialize in quite modestly priced fresh seafood, classically prepared in the style of the American Dirty South (fried, y'all), with prompt efficient service, and a decent selection of beer and cocktails. Super casual. Think flip-flops and cut off shorts casual. Get a tie-dye or a coozie souvenir. It's beachy. Patio is nice. It's not a place for a quiet relaxing meal unless you go at an odd time. It's all about the food.

The best value and food in the area. The portions are generous and quality is top notch. Try the all u can eat shrimp for $11.99 Sunday -Wednesday. Says popcorn shrimp but they are larger than popcorn. Service is really good too.

A great place for lunch, and a nice little hole-in-the-wall! We stopped here for lunch on our first day in Gulf Shores. It was a quick place to get some fresh seafood. Atmosphere: 4 stars The inside is everything you would expect from a hole-in-the-wall: cramped, busy, and serious about it's food. Though all the tables were extremely close together, it didn't bother us. The waitstaff did an exceptional job at weaving through the areas. I was impressed. There was outside seating, which looked a little more spread out, but it was a bit to warm for me today. Nothing is fancy about the inside, but that's not why people go here. Staff: 4 stars Staff was busy, efficient, and friendly. Our waitress kept our drinks full, checked on us enough to make sure we had everything we needed, and let us enjoy our food without bothering us. We had a few questions about the menu to help us order, and she was knowledgeable and everything she told us we found to be true when our food was delivered. Food: 4 stars I ordered the Steamed Shrimp Platter and husband ordered the crawfish po-boy. Mine came with a generous helping of shrimp that were cooked well with Old Bay Seasoning. It also came with about a 1/2 lb of new potatoes and a half ear of corn, both covered in butter. I would have preferred less butter and it sorta had an odd after taste. The potatoes were cooked perfectly though. The corn was slightly overcooked and on the mushy side. It also came with shrimp slaw (cole slaw with little shrimps), which I didn't eat b/c I don't like cole slaw. Hubby liked his po-boy and just the sandwich alone filled him up. Prices: 5 stars My large portion of food was $12.99 and husband's sandwich was $7.99. He also ordered a soft drink for $1.99. Total bill of $22.97 was a fair price for all the food we got. Overall: 4 stars This place gets a solid 4 stars. It's a great place for lunch, was quick, filling, and not too hard on the budget. I definitely recommend it and would go back again.

After a long day of shopping at the Foley outlets, I decided to be bold and ask a very nice sales associate at Gap for her recommendation of seafood in Gulf Shores. She suggested the Shrimp Basket and we were not disappointed! My group of four was surprisingly sat as soon as we walked up to the hostess stand, despite there being an obvious swarm of groups waiting - turns out no one wanted to sit inside. We started with the fried pickle appetizer since we had one non-seafood eater in the group and I thought they were very well done! Whatever sauce that comes with the fried pickles totally makes it that much tastier. For drinks, I started with the strawberry-colada daiquiri and made the mistake of drinking it quickly and ordering another. By the time my amaretto orange blossom daiquiri showed up, I realized that my first drink had quite a bit more alcohol than expected so beware - these unsuspecting drinks pack a punch! The mahi mahi platter that I ordered was perfectly cooked, the shrimp slaw was amazing, fries were perfectly crisp, and the hushpuppies weren't too large but not too small. All in all, my favorite meal in Gulf Shores. The Shrimp Basket is extremely cramped and very small, thus the four stars. But that certainly won't ever keep me from returning.

Shrimp basket is always one of my favorites. Good quality food, nice quantity , served quickly, and pleasantly. The was hot and fresh. I always go at least twice while we are in Gulf Shores, we didn't however this time as the waitress didn't tell us about any specials. We found out after our meal from another quest.

We had horrible service and the food was subpar at best. I am completely shocked the reviews are high. Maybe we just had a rare experience but it was bad enough that I will not return and cannot recommend it to anyone else.

Overall this restaurant was a good experience. We sat outside under the heaters. There was little room to move which is the pony downfall of this restaurant. The main courses were delicious. The shrimp grilled/fried perfectly. The grouper was fresh and flavorful. The only complaint I have is the steamed squash had little flavor and no seasoning. The desserts were great and the atmosphere was fun.

blackened mahi po'boy was good, blackened combo was great. Jambalaya bites were surprisingly tasty.

Overpriced generic seafood. We tried fried pickles, fried fish, crab cakes, steamed shrimp and a few other things. Nothing special in any regard. We were seated outside in the patio in a very tight spot in plastic lawn chairs. Service was friendly and pretty fast though!

Yum! Very casual, but great place to eat at the beach. Po boys, shrimp, and cole slaw are all delicious. Our waiter, Hanna, was awesome. It was kinda hot inside but not too bad. They have good sauces, too. Would def reccomend if you're staying in Gulf Shores.

We had a decent experience here. The service was very friendly, although I sent the remainder of my family to souvenir shop while I waited around ten minutes for the check. I got the mahi mahi po-boy which had 4 small pieces of fish on it, and came with no sides. My wife and son each got fried catfish which was OK as far as catfish is concerned. My daughter got a grilled cheese, which was pretty gross mainly because of the bread they use being greasy as well as having a sweet flavor.

Shrimp basket is a place I will def come back too! Service is really good! Ask for Danielle! She's really nice! I got the blackened catfish which was pretty good!!

This place was hopping. It was by far the most packed place we drove by on Gulf Shores. We tried to find somewhere else, thinking there would be a wait, but ended up going back here anyways. And the wait wasn't long at all. The food is your typical fried seafood and southern food. The coconut shrimp were so tasty and the sauce was perfect. Only problem is the waitress didn't come around very often and we were put in the far corner away from everything. The prices are not that bad but a bit on the more expensive side (especially for fried food) and the setup is very laid back, casual, quick and easy. Food was out lightning fast, silverware is already on the table, and bill was there before we knew it. Only other thing I didn't care for was the cheap patio furniture outside, not very comfy and didn't quite feel like a restaurant. But for good, quick food near the beach, you can't really go wrong here.

Shrimp Basket rules! Service is great even outside. Live the crab claws and my kids live the grilled cheese! Oysters on the half shell rock. Gumbo is fantastic. Poe boys the best!

Good meal. Everything prepared had a nice flavor. Meal came out fast and hot. Lorena was a great server. The music was not to loud. Nice little beach bar restaurant and nicely priced items. The coconut shrimp dipping sauce was delicious. The beer was ice cold. Will come back to catch a bite to each on the way home from the beach.

Had group of ten and ate outside. Little chilly but they have heaters overhead. The night we went was all you can eat fried shrimp. Excellent...light breading. I had blackened grouper which was fantastic. The shrimp slaw is not to be missed.

We headed to the Shrimp Basket for lunch and after a week of eating out I needed something lighter. Yes, I know saying Shrimp Basket and eating light in the same sentence sounds like the most ridiculous statement since Bush declared, "Mission accomplished." But among all the fried menu items, I managed to have a light lunch with a cup of seafood gumbo and the grilled crab cake appetizer. The gumbo had a dark brown roux and good taste, but except for a piece of okra and rice, I couldn't identify anything by sight. My grilled crab cakes had no detectable filler and came with a side of remoulade sauce. I did cheat a little by eating a couple of fried coconut shrimp from my mom's plate. They were crunchy and delicious and addictive and the orange marmalade dipping sauce gave it a nice tropical taste. In a town of casual eateries, Shrimp Basket takes casual to a new level. Drinks come in clear plastic cups, the gumbo in a Styrofoam cup and most of the menu is designed to be served in a disposable tray. So, it's no surprise to see families with kids. If it's fried seafood you crave, you could do a lot worse than Shrimp Basket.

The Shrimp Basket is more of a hole in the wall kind of restaurant. When my bf and I arrived, it was very crowded. It seems like the service was a hit or miss for everyone. For us, it was a HIT. My waitress suggested the Steamed Shrimp Plate and I completely devoured all of it! The coconut shrimp was good (but not the best I've had). It's a very casual, quick delicious meal kind of place. =)

Great, reasonably priced seafood! We ate at the Orange Beach location. It was fairly busy for a late lunch on a Wednesday on October. Service was fast. Food was fresh. Bill was cheap. So I'd go back in a heartbeat! We had the crabcake appetizer, which was real good. Two large crabcakes full of meat with just right amount of filler. I had a pond of steamed shrimp with steamed veggie side. My mom had the fried catfish basket and enjoyed it. I can't remember what my dad had but he really liked his. Seems like you won't be disappointed here as long as you like seafood- plenty of options!

Good food, good prices, good service, but a little dark and cramped inside. We ate at the restaurant the first time and went back for take out the next night. Yummy oysters and hush puppies.

Courteous staff and while my shrimp basket was tasty, it's not like I was blown away. The size if the shrimp, especially for a place a block from the gulf were just medium size. I had a shrimp étouffée entree but didn't see any shrimp and the potato salad was not very good. Become for the experience though and the shrimp is good.

I look forward to going on Tuesdays for the AYCE steamed shrimp. We make it a priority to go there whenever we are on vacation. Up until this year I would have given the food experience a 5 star rating. But for some reason this year the shrimp were really bland and hardly any flavor. I thought I would try to ask them if they could put more seasoning on the shrimp and I did. They were happy to comply and the shrimp tasted much better. My only complaint would be that if they were going to tone down the seasoning they should make some sort of chart that gives you the option of what level of seasoning that you want. So, with that being said, we were there for 2 weeks and the second time around with asking for extra seasoning everything was back to where I remember it from years past. I think I have probably eaten at this place almost 10 times over the last few times we have been there. Skip over the tourist traps and get their food it is good. My son had the fish and it was really tasty. The corn fritters are pretty much amazing. Looking forward to my next visit, but if it goes on the bland route I might need to find a new favorite place for shrimp in the gulf.

Just went to Sea & Suds yesterday so we wanted to try Shrimp Shack today since both places were rated on Yelp the same. Wow, what a difference between the 2 places. Wish we had gone to Sea & Suds again! Here the oysters shells were so dirty we had grimy debris everywhere. You could not slurp the oysters because of it. Also they were not shucked well, so we had to scrape them off the shell and then they were all tattered and dirty from the grime around the shells. What a mess! Only 12 oysters here for $8.99 vs 13 clean beautiful oysters for $8.50 at the other place. The corn fritters were good but overpriced for the small amount. The grilled shrimp Po-boy was just ok. The service was slow. We were not impressed.

If you want to eat your heart out with as much seafood as you can possibly stuff in your mouth....this is the place for you! MP and I decided to try this place since we passed by a ton of times. Plus on Tuesday they have $.25 oysters! FTW!!! We sit down at a table outside and each order a beer. We start with a dozen oysters (since you can't beat that price) and MP is on a total oyster diet right now. I decided on the pick two fried basket. I got the whitefish and shrimp. It came with hush puppies, cole slaw and more fries than I cared to eat! MP ordered the pick 3, popcorn shrimp, mussels and crab claws. The Oysters were delicious and so fresh! The food was delicious, but definitely more than we both needed to eat, plus we both felt so full after wards. I mean, serves us right for ordering fried baskets! In any case, we both really enjoyed and had TONS of leftovers to which we ate the next day for lunch. So I think that worked out pretty well. My only complaint is that the service is totally meh. Our waitress was so slow and seemed totally uninterested in anything. But seems like this place does well, when we left the place was crowded. A definite yummy lunch place for anyone visiting GS.

We went with pretty high expectations because of other reviews we read ahead of time. We left with just a fair experience & probably won't go back. That being said, the favorite thing we got, which was REALLY good, was the 1/2 lb grilled shrimp appetizer. It was fantastic. Amazing flavor - could've & should've made a meal on that. I ordered the blackened snapper (fish of the day) & husband ordered Mahi tacos at the high rec of the server, who was very sweet. The snapper was ok. Not great. Just fair. The Mahi tacos were a just little better than ok - they were decent. The slaw was decent. The onion rings no big deal. The steamed broccoli was perfect. I would go back for the grilled shrimp, but that's probably the only thing. (And 4 hours later, I still have indigestion.) :-/

No wait at 3:30pm. Staff was courteous and service was quick (we had our meal within 10 minutes of sitting down and ordering). Coconut shrimp were fresh, crisp, hot, and delicious. The tails were somehow shorter than most, so you get more meat per shrimp. Generous portions. Shrimp slaw tastes great. Fries were hot. Tea was good. Altogether a very good place.

  • Kelly B.

My husband and I split 1/2lb blackened shrimp & 1/2lb boiled shrimp, a side of turnip greens, & a side of steamed squash. Delicious! As you would hope, the shrimp was fresh. The blackened shrimp was seasoned well without being too spicy. The boiled shrimp had a nice, mild seasoning. The turnip greens had type of pork for flavoring. The steamed squash was that - steamed squash. What really drew us to the Shrimp Basket was the healthier options - boiled shrimp, steamed squash, greens. It's hard to enjoy fresh seafood in restaurants around Gulf Shores without encountering fried food accompanied by more fried food. While you can get that at the Shrimp Basket, you can also eat pretty well.

One of our favorite places to eat. Usually our first and last place to go when in town. Our server had a big smile and was very polite. She was also great! They have changed the menu and have done away with combo baskets. I hate that!

Liked sitting on the porch, food as good as everyone claims. Actually the all you can eat fish was very good and affordable. The place is always packed, that says something about how popular it is. I will take my family back next time were in town for sure.

Very good, relatively inexpensive seafood. Great if you're looking for a cheap, casual lunch or dinner. I will certainly be back to try more of their food.

Stopped in for lunch and ordered the fried shrimp basket and the coconut shrimp basket. Both were decent, though in both cases, they had been fried about 30 seconds too long - not burnt, but just a bit too crisp for fried food. However, the portions were quite large! The service was friendly and quick and we'd totally eat here again.

Great, small, very casual place (paper rolls as napkins) to do dine fresh seafood. Do not expect anything fancy, just some good lunch style food and kind service.

Fried. ..fried....fried. ...food is fair, shrimp slaw was good....beer was cold. Good lunch choice.

This establishment is a great place to drop in for a quick lunch or dinner. It is not fancy at all, but they deliver on taste and quality. You can sit on the porch (which is preferable if it isn't broiling hot). I like the plain ol' shrimp basket. Can't beat it with a stick!

I"m not a shrimp person, never order it, ever. However, while on vacation in Gulf Shores, i decided to go out on a limb and try something new. All the shrimp I had in Gulf Shores was pretty freaking good. Shrimp Basket was no exception. Stopped in for lunch with my family on a rainy sunday, and sat outside on their covered patio. Service was decent. Food was very good. I had the blackened shrimp tacos. The seasoning was perfect - not too strong, not too bland. The accompanying shrimp slaw was yummy as well. Got broccoli as my second side, mainly because my toddler son is on a broccoli kick. Well, he decided yesterday that he doesn't like broccoli anymore. I ended up eating it. It was seasoned well, but was a little mushy. The tacos came with 2 hushpuppies and a corn nugget. The corn nugget was a cute surprise. I wish all restaurants would do that..just tuck a little surprise into your food basket.

Best place in gulf shores! It's tight, cramped, loud and awesome. I wish I would have found this place sooner.

the all you can eat shrimp nights were fun. Shrimp was a little better at another place. We had about 4 plates of shrimp each at shrimp basket. so much fun!! Small place so be ready for a wait. It is worth it.

3rd night in a row :o) Sit outside, try the grilled crawfish for $1 upcharge! Two nights I got the crawfish platter grilled for the small upcharge on the third night the cook said no. (shrug) Not sure the reasoning on that so had it fried but prefered the grilled definitley. Allergic to shrimp so substited the shrimp slaw without a problem. Delicious squash and new potato side dishes. Love their hugh puppies, just perfect little fried tender corn meal with tiny onions in it. Coulda hammered a basket of them! My friend loved the baked beans with fried shrimp one night and white fish another. We both agreed this casual local food small restaurant was our favorite in the 182/59/180 tourist area.

We always eat here when we come to Gulf Shores/ Orange Beach. I tried the jalapeño strips for the first time..I've been missing out! These are awesome!!! We've tried SB in other parts of AL and it's just not as good. WHy? I just dont know. Another tip.. the tarter sauce is wonderful!!

  • Taylor W.

Food was mediocre and service was awful. The waitress was extremely rude when she knew we were tourists and wanted separate checks. Our orders got completely screwed up and when we asked the manager for 2 meals to get comped bc they came 30mins after the other food she threatened to call the cops. Never going back

The Shrimp Basket has several locations in Baldwin County Alabama and one at Perdido Key, FL. If you're looking for a fancy place, this isn't it. If you're looking for good seafood, and a casual atmosphere, you will probably like the Shrimp Basket. One thing I like about is the prices are the same throughout the day, no dinner menu when the prices double from the lunch menu,.

This place is a Gulf Coast TRADITION. If I want to stir up some drama in my family...all I have to do is send them a text pic of me and their Dad having a Shrimp Po Boy on the outside patio...without them! It's the first place we hit, sometimes, even before our feet touch the sand. Po Boys are excellent, Onion Rings are good, the homemade tarter sauce makes everything special and the sweet tea will send you into a diabetic coma. Three things you need to know....1)Yes, it's good. 2) Yes, we love it. And 3) OhYes, we'll be back.

Shrimp Basket is one of our more preferred places for seafood. Not as pricey as some other local places and the kids really love eating on the patio.

At 8pm near the beach, I didn't expect this place to be so busy! However, there were several people waiting. It is very small, inside and out, and if it wasn't for Yelp, I probably would not have ate here. However, i followed some Yelpers advice and went. I decided on their crab cakes with fried okra. It was amazing! The staff was very friendly as well and even though they were busy, kept smiles on their faces!

  • Arlene G.

If you are going for atmosphere, this is probably not the place for you. We chose to eat inside and it was very crowded and dark. We had been assured that the food would make up for the surroundings and it did!! We had a great waitress who took our order quickly and effiiciently. I had the fried shrimp basket and it was delicious. My husband had the steamed shrimp platter as well as a cup of gumbo. All the food was very good. Sweet tea was great too...not all restaurants can produce Southern Sweet Tea that is drinkable!!

When visiting this quaint town I came across this seafood spot. I enjoyed everything from the grilled shrimp to the crab cake appetizer. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. I liked having choices to choose from on the menu. In addition to the great food and variety, the service was terrific. I never had to ask for my water to be re-filled. I will be back to eat here!

I stopped in on 8/23/12 for the all you can eat fish. The food was good and the price was reasonable. However, I was chastised for letting my wife have a taste of a hush puppy. They have a STRICT "no sharing" policy and they have CAMERAS to watch and make sure you dont share. I felt like a friggin criminal. There are too many great restaurants in the area to put up with this nonsense.

Great lunch! Had crab cakes, grilled, and split an order of coconut shrimp with hubby. Both items were so good! The shrimp was very fresh, served with a yummy sauce. Crab cakes close to the best I've ever eaten. Only downside was the slaw...too much mayo. We were sorry we had to leave before making a second trip here :(

  • Casey M.

Always a favorite. Casual seafood experience. Busy, limited seating. The boys had the all-you-can-eat fried fish and were good for 4-5 baskets each. Fish tacos and shrimp tacos were decent, but a touch salty. Shrimp coleslaw was very good, fried shrimp were a nice starter and the waitstaff were friendly and prompt. Go early, it gets very busy...

Food was decent, service was terrible, and that's not even the worst of it: sitting outside, we saw roaches EVERYWHERE. They were even coming in and out of the wooden floor. Doesn't make for an appetizing experience. I will never go back.

This is one of the better seafood joint in GS out of the hundreds. We stumbled there when we joined the crowd of waiting customers at the Original Oyster House. When we heard that there was an hour wait for a table, we skedaddled and found the shrimp basket. It was busy too but there was room so we jumped in. The oysters there are fresh and delicious. I also had the Po-boy. The shrimp was lightly breaded and you didn't get tired of the taste after a couple bites. All-in-all, a great dinner for us. Plus they have this great porch seating with a great view of the strip, where you can people watch.

  • Brandi S.

The food was good. Fried and yummy as always, but my fries were cold. This was due to the service. Part of our order was also wrong and the server didn't even apologize. The service was terrible! Having been a server for years I expect more than a lazy, unresponsive, rude girl. They were not even as busy as usual, yet the tables around us turned twice. The ticket said our server's name was Alina1. She never introduced herself so I am hoping this is right. We actually had to get up and walk across to where she was leaning against the wall and ask her for drink refills after staring at nothing but ice in our glasses for fifteen minutes. Needless to say we left our first ever 15% before tax tip. For that service we were generous. I have been to the Shrimp Basket several times over the years and this was the first really bad service we have had. The tables around us seemed to get great service. Hopefully Alina1 isn't representative of all they have to offer.

Nothing fancy, but the food was tasty and hot. I had the all you can eat popcorn shrimp and the first batch was so big, I didn't need to ask for any more. One thing is that if you eat outside, its really noisy from all the cars on the street,,
